Let the Good Times In: Cultivating Humor, Making Trouble and Celebrating Joy

Gina Barreca

Women's humor is not for the faint-hearted or the easily shocked. But then again, neither is waking up in the morning. We all enter this world crying. Laughter is something we have to learn. Tough times, as we all know, are inevitable: We all face sadness, we all face suffering. There are two alternatives: You can crack up or you can crack a smile.Your friends can help. Telling our stories and hearing the stories of others is the key to survival, or at least to making survival worth the bother. As Gina will discuss, seeking joy, discovering humor and nurturing a sense of the absurd is a skill, a talent, an instinct and a habit. It can also be a hoot.
